What is rehabilitation?

Rehabilitation or rehab means helping someone to restore to their normal life using therapies and training after a prolonged illness or surgery or trauma. Rehabilitation may be physical, mental, emotional and even psychological in some cases. For different people, rehabilitation means differently, for instance, rehabilitation of a senior citizen after knee surgery may aim at restoring him to normal day-to-day activities, whereas, for a younger person rehabilitation may mean returning to the active life that they used to enjoy before the illness or surgery. Thus, rehabilitation centers in Mumbai give their best to improve the quality of life as well as help the patient to gain back the lost confidence.

Who requires rehabilitation treatment?

Rehabilitation is required for people who have suffered from a prolonged illness, have gone through surgery or have suffered from physical or mental trauma. Illness, surgery or trauma, may result in immobility, or lack of coordination and balance of the body. Rehab centers in Mumbai perform therapies and training required to get back the mobility, strength, and coordination of the body. In cases, when the patient has lost their speech, speech therapies are required to restore normal communication. Rehabilitation, in some cases, may also be required to restore the memory and thinking process. A mental trauma may have led a patient to a loss of logical and rational thinking; rehab is required in such cases too.

What is the goal of rehabilitation?

The basic goal of rehabilitation is to restore the person’s normal life. However, the meaning of a normal life varies for each individual. For instance, for people who are comparatively older normal life is the ability to day-to-day jobs and self-care by themselves. Whereas, for a younger person normal life would be the active life that he/she enjoyed before the surgery or illness.

Rehabilitation centers set different goals for different individuals. Training and therapies are set according to the individual’s needs, desires, and capabilities. The goals also depend upon the cause of injury and the impact that it had on the person’s body and mind. There may be some injuries in which the rehabilitation desired by the patient is not possible. In such cases, the trainers and therapists plan the best possible rehabilitation keeping in mind the doctor’s guidelines and instructions.

Also, the time taken to achieve rehabilitation goals varies for different individuals. It depends on the individual’s potential and strength. It also depends on the severity of the cause of the problem.

The ultimate goal of rehabilitation is to provide physical as well as mental strength. A person leaving the rehab center in Mumbai is thus expected to be physically stable as well as mentally prepared to face the life ahead to the best possible extent.

What are the types of rehabilitation?

An injury, an accident or a surgery may lead a person to various types of difficulties and disabilities. Some such disabilities may be a lack of mobility, lack of balance, a decrease in muscle strength, loss of memory, problems with speech, a problem in breathing, swallowing problems and many more. Different types of disabilities need different rehabilitation therapies for the desired result. The most common therapies practiced at the rehabilitation centers are listed below.

1) Physical therapy or Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy has a major role to play in restoring the physical strength of a person. It is also effective in neurological disorders like paralysis.

2) Occupational Therapy

This therapy helps the patient restore their day-to-day job by improving their motor skill and coordination using specialized equipment.

3) Speech therapy

Speech therapy is performed for patients who face difficulty in speech and communication. People suffering from swallowing disorders are also considered for this therapy.

4) Respiratory therapy

This therapy is useful for patients suffering from breathing disorders and aims at teaching the patient how to use inhalers and oxygen supplemental.

How We Made A Difference

  • review rating 5  We contacted care 24 for my Dad's physiotherapy. Our physiotherapist Dr Dharita is very knowledgeable and extremely patient. My Dad is showing a lot for improvement in terms of his movement.

  • review rating 2  Needed an attendant for a week for post-surgical assistance (ward boy type work). The person allocated was punctual, polite, and generally did the job well. Quite happy with the services provided. Edit: The payment management is quite bad. If you choose to make cash payments for the service (physiotherapist in my case), the payment does not sync with the agency and they keep sending messages and emails along you to pay up. They follow up with calls on Sunday afternoon 🤦🏻 Edit 2: No change. The company is continuously following up for the money I have already paid. Reducing the rating.

  • review rating 1  We had a ridiculously pathetic experience with them. Took an attendant service, a 10 day offer (rs 600 instead of their regular fee of rs 800), for my mother who had undergone an knee replacement surgery. In six days, 4 different attendants were assigned for no fault of ours. We had terrible experience going through the back-end team trying to explain the importance of sending only one attendant and not a different one every new day. The last person assigned wanted to leave by 5pm even though the timings were from 8am to 8pm. With this many other terrible instances in these 6 days, we had no option but to cancel the services. The back-end team were utterly useless in understanding the importance of having only one person assigned. They kept insisting that we pay for 800rs per day for 6 day and offer of rs 600 per day would be invalid. The management should look into this scam and take immediate action on the team. Note: Even though we wanted the services, we were forced to abandon it with no fault of ours. The back-end team has absolute disregard for the grievances of the client.

  • review rating 1  The worst experience I've had of my life. I normally never really write reviews, but I had to write this because this agency is the worst company I've dealt with till now. Their customer service is terrible, most of their attendants are not competent for taking care of elderly patients. Please do not use their service.

  • review rating 1  Unqualified office staff, when you call to clarify something. Many times they don't understand the question. They are not trained well. The customer care staff needs an upgraded system, where notes are fed into the system. So you don't need someone else calling up and giving you the same info. The caretaker is not trained well. If they are looking after an elderly person, they should know that they have to be in the best of health to look after my mother. She ended not making a meal for my mother and my neighbour had to provide it. If the caretaker is not well she should have asked for a replacement asap and not waited. It is shocking, we have paid a huge amount of money for this service and I am absolutely unhappy. Please do not call for caretaker's from Care24. As long as they are getting their money. They care a damn!!! Worst service providers.

  • review rating 1  Worst experience ever! Have hired a caregiver and a nurse. The nurse arrives late repeatedly inspite of being told about how critical medication timings are, falls asleep during day duty, is clueless about timings and medications inspite of us having guided them and has no sound medical knowledge whatsoever. She insisted that a fever of 99.7 is normal and even tried feeding the patient through riles tube with the patient lieing down inspite of there being a recliner arrangement. Neither the nurse or the attendant knew the correct way of lifting a patient from the bed, it was all ignorant tug and pull. Any complaints made to the organisation made no difference as they need more than a day to arrange for a replacement and one needs to deal with the same incompetent staff for another day or risk having no caregiver coming over (as bluntly informed by the call center) at all. Furtheron, the same performance continued the next day. In fact, in the absence of the family members it was observed through a baby monitor that the attendant and the nurse were sitting and chatting away while the patient was trying to sleep and literally PASSING FOOD OVER TO EACH OTHER OVER THE PATIENT! If this wasnt bad enough, the attendant developed a cough and a fever and when a call was made to care 24 asking them to send a replacement on the next day at least as the patient has low immunity, the organisation again gave a choice, we could have the same attendant and risk the patient getting sick, or have no attendant for the next day as they didn't have anyone available. Do not fall for the sales pitch of the executives over the phone as their premium prices and promises of exceptionally well trained staff is nothing but marketing mumbo jumbo. The professionalism and training of the staff that comes to your door is as garbage as the service of the organisation. More importantly, do not trust this organisation with the health and well being of your loved ones as no one in the entire heirarchy of care 24 really 'cares'. You would be better off hiring someone from a local agency. Have had much better experiences with randomly contacted nurses and attendants through justdial. Even though they live far, they reach on time The local organisations are also promptly able to provide replacements if need be. P.S. The 1000 or so rupees registration charge they take from you initially, is essentially a financial clickbait as its money they've made off you after they have stressed you out, contributed to deterioration of the patient and compelled you to suspend their services.

  • review rating 1  Horrible, unprofessional service! Advance paid. The caregiver did not show up. When complained to customer care, they said they will find a replacement and call back. No call back, no replacement. They shut for the day and the customer is felt in a lurch. Extremely disappointing. Will never avail this service again and will spread the word too.
