The emotional, social and psychological well being of a person is termed as sound Mental health. It affects how a person thinks, acts, feels and behaves. The decision making ability, stress handling capability and the ability of a person to connect to other human beings are all affected by how fit he or she is mentally. And as the saying goes  A healthy mind resides in a healthy body, Mental and Physical health are related to each other in many aspects.

Positive mental health helps people to realize their full potential, contribute significantly to the society and lead peaceful lives. While a negative mental health, destroys a personäó»s ability to think clearly, affects his social behavior and can lead to harmful repercussions.

CCasual Anxiety is a part of life. Be it before an exam, due to work or some major decision in life. But if anxiety prevails for a longer time and interferes with a person’s everyday functioning and normal life, it is termed as an Anxiety disorder. Fear, dread, panic, sweating and rapid heartbeat are some of the symptoms observed in people suffering from Anxiety Disorders. Some examples are generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder and specific phobias.

Characterised by cyclic mood changes, A person suffering from bipolar disorder faces extreme levels of elevated mood and depression intervals. During good mood, he is abnormally happy and energetic, while in a depression interval negative thoughts, low self esteem and poor eye contact with others prevail. The affected individuals often make irrational decisions and have relatively high suicidal tendencies.

The constant prevalence of negative thoughts, irritability and loss in interest of living life are the signs of Depression in a person. Affected individuals feel lonely, empty from within and hopeless. They get tired easily, lose appetite and face problems in sleeping. If the depression prolongs over the years, it turns into clinical depression.

Eating disorders are associated with abnormal patterns of eating causing unwanted weight loss or weight gain. A person either eats too much or does not eat at all. Anorexia, is an eating disorder in which a person starves himself in order to get thin. It is generally observed in models and actors. Binge eating on the other hand leads a person to eat too much due to stress and anxiety. Bulimia is an eating disorder which involves binge eating followed by purging i.e trying to get rid of the consumed food.

Psychotic disorders lead to abnormal thinking patterns and affect the general awareness of a person. Major types include Hallucination – in which a person sees unreal images or hears unusual noises and Delusion in which he or she lives in an unreal state of mind and accepts things proven to be false as true. Schizophrenia is another form of psychotic disorder. Schizophrenic people have very restricted memory, speak less, have trouble paying attention, increased reaction time, poor decision making ability and generally lose emotional interest in people and daily activities.
